You can find some great live music al fresco in Oconomowoc and at local events and festivals. The summer kicks off outdoor concerts with the popular Bands at the Beach. Start your weekend right with these Friday night shows June 3, 24; July 8, 22; Aug. 5 and 26. Shows begin at 7 p.m. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair and find your spot in the park to enjoy the show. You can bring your own refreshments or purchase them at the presenting sponsor of the concerts, Buddy's Beach Bungalow.
A true Oconomowoc classic, the Oconomowoc American Legion Band concerts are a lovely way to spend a Wednesday evening outside. The legion band was established in 1924 and are affiliated with the Edwin L. Jones American Legion Post 91 in Oconomowoc. It has been designated the official Legion Band of the State of Wisconsin and travels frequently to the annual American Legion National Convention. Concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays staring in mid-June.
One of the most unique outdoor concert experiences in Oconomowoc has to be Magic Mansion Concert on the Porch. Grab our chair and place it on the lawn of this Oconomowoc home to enjoy live music by all types of musicians from well-known chart toppers to up-and-coming artists to local favorites. Dates this year are June 26, July 24, Aug. 28 and Sept. 25.
Back again 2022, the owners of Magic Mansion is bringing even more amazing talent for you to enjoy FOR FREE outside in Fowler Park. Twilight Concerts at Fowler Park will be held Sunday evenings July 10, Aug. 14 and Sept. 11. You won't want to miss it.
Got legs? You can move them around Oconomowoc
This community has become something of walk/run destination. Throughout the year many organizations host these events including a triathlon. To name a few, planned for 2021 is the Non-Cancelled Marathon May 1, BeYOUtiful 5k/Half Marathon for running moms on May 8, 988 Suicide Prevention Walk-Run a special addition the SOFA event planned May 15.
Celebrating Oconomowoc's tie to the "Wizard of Oz" is the annual Yellow Brick Road Run on June 5. They weren't deterred by holding off on their polar plunge this year, instead the Special Olympics is hosting a Solar Plunge and Run June 12. Just in time for Independence Day is the Freedom 5K on July 4.
You can join or just come down and watch the impressive performance of athletes during the Lake Country Triathlon July 31. The same race organizer brings the Lake Country Half Marathon back to the beach on Aug. 28. And yes, they run in December during the Yule Twinkle All the Way run through the tree lights downtown Dec. 4.
Downtown Vibes
Oconomowoc is blessed to have some pretty incredible merchants and stakeholders downtown. Those include the Downtown Oconomowoc Business District and Oconomowoc Area Chamber of Commerce which presents the Summer Farmer's Market downtown starting the first Saturday in May. Thanks to those partners you can enjoy a very cool mix of events downtown.
Art, shopping, music, eats, drinks... need we say more? I didn't think so! You can enjoy all of those when downtown celebrates the onset of spring during its annual Spring Gallery Night May 7. Let us not forget a new and popular feature in Village Green Park - Beer Gardens! They are set for June 17-19, July 15-17 and Aug. 20-22. We hear they are offering a bonus beer garden event the day before Fall Fest on Sept. 11, also a fabulous event. Check it all out on Downtown Oconomowoc Business District's website.
Events in the Parks
It is with great excitement that we announce the return of Moonlit Movies returns to Fowler Park for outdoor movies on a giant screen June 10, July 8 and Aug. 12. Check out their website for updates on which movie will be shown. With Moonlit Movies you will be treated to a show by the Badgerland Waterski Show Team the same dates before the movie. Badgerland is also adding additional shows are Fowler Park June 24, July 1, 29 and Aug. 5.
We also invite all ages to come play in the parks during the ever-popular Kids Fest, moving to Fowler Park this year on Aug. 10 and Kids Day will return to City Beach on Aug. 17. Of course these events are always held around the time that we celebrate the city's long-standing, incredible Oconomowoc Festival of the Arts the weekend of Aug. 21-22 in Fowler Park. Don't forget we celebrate arts festival weekend with a Legion Band concert, lighted boat parade and fireworks Saturday evening at City Beach Aug. 21.
We would be remiss if we left out a fall-winter favorite in Village Green Park, Oconomowoc German Christmas Market. Also planning a return for 2021 after a pause last year, this holiday favorite will return to the green Thanksgiving weekend, Nov. 26-28.
